So...what EXACTLY do S.T.E.M. and S.T.E.A.M. stand for?

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  STEAM simply adds Art to the equation.

The OFFICIAL STEM definition states that it is an interdisciplinary approach to learning where rigorous academic concepts are coupled with real-world lessons as students apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in contexts that make connections between school, community, work, and the global market, giving learners the ability to compete in the new economy. What this means is that STEAM-powered students are better able to compete both educationally and commercially in today's fast-paced and deeply connected world. As competition becomes more fierce and technology becomes more prevalent, those equipped to operatie in these fast-flowing waters will thrive. Those that can't, risk drowning.

Our project-based curriculum is driven by the interests and goals of our learners.  We learn through doing. We are designers and builders, in addition to being learners and thinkers. Through our explorations, we learn to seek the creative answer. Our curriculum immerses our students in the learning process, transferring ownership of the information from the teacher to the student. During the process of discovery, we learn about the science involved, the technology that drives our work, the engineering principles that make it possible, the artistic purposes to which it can be put, and the mathematics that underpin it all. We bring learning to life with practical and relevant activities, projects, experiments and competitions that show students how education interacts with the real world.

Our STEAM-driven classes empower learners with the ability to harness Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math both creatively and critically. Additionally, our Arts-infused approach stimulates the right-brain component of learning through creativity and abstract problem-solving, which can result in the all-important intuitive leap. Imagine how much of an advantage students will have who know how to read and write code for various operating systems, analyze and build circuits, design alternative energy solutions, master advanced chemical compositions, construct robots and motor-controlled machines, determine the strengths and weaknesses of engineered objects, be able to creatively tackle time-based logic challenges, lead build groups, apply advanced mathematical concepts to real-life scenarios, and ULTIMATELY be the Programmer...not the programmed.
