You Can't Judge A Book By It's Cover...

Reading, writing, speaking, and listening are all spokes in the powerful wheel of literacy.  It is not enough for students to just “get by” when it comes to these critical skills.  Being able to effectively use and apply knowledge of the English language provides students with limitless opportunities. Our Literacy Classes focus on the core components required for mastery of these valuable skills.  Our goal is to prepare students to be strong communicators and thinkers who don’t just compete, but excel in our ever changing global world.

The evidence is overwhelming. Introducing a child to reading gives them
one of the most important personal habits they’ll need to have a successful
career and a happy, productive life.

Why Does Literacy Matter?

1 in 4 children in America grow up without learning how to read. (1)

Children’s early vocabulary skills are linked to their economic backgrounds. (2)

Students who don't read proficiently by the 3rd grade are 4 times more likely to drop out of school. (4)

What Can We Do About It?

Students who read just 15 minutes per day will have read over one million words in a year's time! (3)

Reading to a child in an interactive style raises his or her IQ by over 6 points. (3)

> Reading for pleasure is more important than either wealth or social class as an indicator of success at school! (5)

You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.
