Grade Pre K

This class is sure to stir the imagination and stimulate the creativity of young artists! The wonder and joy of artistic expression will be discovered through a variety of mediums and techniques.  Our pint-sized Picassos will have opportunities to experiment with painting, printmaking, sculpture, and more!

Grades K - 1

This super messy, but totally fun art class exposes young artists to the joys of mixing it up with their media.  From ooey gooey to sticky icky, emphasis will be on incorporating important developmental building blocks such as fine motor skills with a multitude of artistic exercises. Students will tear, cut, fold, tape, crush, and crumple with a wide variety of artistic tools. Students will paint with unusual materials, such as ice and their elbows!  They will also be introduced to sticky mediums such as homemade glue, edible play-doh, and goop. In short, every day will be an adventure. Don’t worry, Moms.  We’ll be sure to wear smocks!!!

Grades 2 - 3

Aspiring Rembrandts will be inspired by the illustrations in their favorite books as they explore the work of contemporary and classic artists while learning principals of design.  Students will examine elements such as line, color, shape, value, and texture. Students will be fully immersed as they experiment with painting techniques, construct with unusual materials, and develop a rudimentary appreciation and understanding of art.

Grades 4 - 6

The focus of this class is drawing, shading, painting, clay, patterns and design, silhouettes, abstract art, and more. Students will also experiment with acrylics, oil pastels, pencil, pen and ink, and water color mediums.  Different artistic styles and techniques will be examined as students explore their own individual style and creativity.

Grades 7 - 12

From assemblage sculpture to watercolors, students will develop and enhance their artistic style while in this class. Exploration in a variety of different mediums and art techniques will support the exploration of creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces.  Students who are new to art will be given basic instruction on techniques and styles. More advanced students will be given an opportunity to hone their skills.  All students will explore their own individual style and creativity.

CULINARY ARTS

Grade Pre K

Learning and fun are on the menu for our young connoisseurs! From appetizer to dessert, this class will leave them asking for more. Preparing their own food allows preschoolers to lay the foundation for basic math and reading skills, in addition to building self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment.

Can’t get your child to eat anything but peanut butter and jelly? Maybe we can. When kids make their own dishes, they may be more likely to eat (or at least try) a new food. We will make even the pickiest learners happy with our menu of educational activities mixed with interactive fun.  From the start, we’ll engage our little chefs with lots of opportunities for feeling, smelling, and tasting.  They will learn kitchen safety and basic kitchen techniques like rolling, pouring, and stirring.  We’ll progress into using fresh ingredients to create yummy snacks, main dishes, and desserts.  In the process, they will also learn about following directions and measuring, too.

If your child wants to be the next Master Chef, he or she needs to enroll in this Culinary Arts Class! We will show students how to start with raw ingredients and mix, knead, or whisk their way to a healthy, delicious dish.  Learning basic cooking techniques and terms is a piece of cake for students when they are doing all the hands-on activity in the kitchen.  By using easy to follow recipes with wholesome ingredients, we allow kids to begin to get creative with their cooking. We mix in learning mouthwatering math when students measure, half, or double a recipe.  They stir in scrumptious science as they combine, dissolve, and mix.  Reading skills are reinforced when our sous chefs study recipes to plan and prepare dishes.  Add in a few Mystery Ingredient Challenges and we think we have the perfect recipe for learning!

Taste buds and learning will come alive for aspiring chefs in this class.  With a dash of fun and a pinch of creativity, we will tempt the students to experiment with foundational kitchen techniques and a variety of ingredients.  Knowledge is on the menu as we sprinkle math and reading into culinary skills.  From appetizer to dessert, this class will enable students to make healthy choices and prepare nutritious meals for their families and themselves while having a tasty time.  Food Focused Challenges will be sure to keep all our students coming back for seconds!

Instead of asking, “Mom, what’s for dinner?” Wouldn’t it be great if the kids could cook for the family? Our Culinary Arts Class will be sure tweens and teens aren’t stuck eating microwaved mac and cheese or fast food when they move out of the house.  Basic and advanced cooking techniques, as well as selection of healthy recipes, will be important components of this class.

DIGITAL MEDIA

Grade Pre K

We are never too young to learn! Our Pre K digital explorers gain a strong understanding of how computers work, how to use a mouse, what double-clicking means, and how to navigate thru the digital space. Never underestimate the power of learning through exploration. Your child will gain confidence in computer discovery while building the vocabulary necessary to excel in digital mediums. Watch as our young learners blossom into future tech giants!

How does your child already know how to unlock your phone and download the current season of their favorite TV show? We can’t answer that, but we can give them something more productive to do with their love of technology.  Kids will start out learning computer essentials and will progress to simple programming using problem-solving and logical reasoning skills.  We know young innovators will be fascinated when we experiment with green screen technology and digital photography.  We will also teach students about internet safety and how to make smart choices online.  If your children have a love of technology and an active imagination, then this is the class for them!

Grades 2-3

Budding innovators will be completely plugged in as we explore game programming concepts. They will work on basic game design and development while increasing their ability to use game logic and problem solving skills.  Kids will explore green screen technology and star in their own videos. We will also teach students about internet safety and how to make smart choices online.  Digital art techniques, storyboarding, and stop-motion animation will also be explored in this class that is sure to get lots of “likes."

Do you have the next Steven Spielberg or George Lucas at your house? Maybe your child just can’t subscribe to enough YouTube channels.  Whether your child likes to be in front of the camera or behind the scenes, we are sure they will enjoy this class.  We will explore aspects of video production and composition while exposing students to different video styles including vlog, tutorial, unboxing, reaction, and more. Students will also learn how to storyboard and create their own stop motion animation short.  Top it all off with some programming and video game design and we know that your kids will be posting how much they loved this class.

What’s better than playing video games? Learning to design and build your own, of course!  Students will become immersed in skills necessary for programming and coding in a secondary school environment.  Students will master the skills of the film studio and conquer the nuances of the sound booth.  Video editing, scene compositing, and script writing will become their playthings. For those interested in the ones and zeroes that make things work, there is a full complement of coding classes that focus on building digital games, mobile apps, and the various root and wrapper languages that allow all of the coolest technologies to communicate.

DRAMA

Grade Pre K     Drama

In this introductory drama class, we encourage our young learners to “act out”! Imagination takes Center Stage as we keep kids fully engaged through interactive drama activities, including role play and improvisation. Children will develop stronger communication and language skills while gaining exposure to dramatic elements including characters, props, and costumes.

"Watch me!" How many parents have heard their kids excitedly make this request?  From dressing-up and putting on a show to playing store, children instinctively enjoy imaginative and pretend play.  To children, they are just having fun doing what comes naturally.  In reality, these types of play are integral parts of creativity and learning. Our young thespians will take part in collective storytelling, improvisation, and other drama activities designed to develop speaking, writing, and listening skills.  They will build self-confidence and boost social skills by working collaboratively with partners and in small groups.  When students are able to step outside themselves and become another person, they are able to creatively solve problems that they might not try in real life.  All our future actors will be ready to take a bow after this energizing journey of learning through make-believe and excitement.

We set the stage for excitement in this high-energy class! All students, from the shy to the outspoken, can benefit from participating in drama activities.  In our encouraging and engaging environment, they will be given opportunities to create scenarios for growth and learning.   Students will be front and center as they learn the basic acting skills, exercises, and techniques that are the basis from which strong communicators arise.   By collaborating with peers through group and pair performances, students will boost their social skills and self-confidence. FASHION DESIGN

Grades K - 1

It’s all about glitter and glamour in this perfect pairing of fashion and fun! This class will introduce students to style, design, and fabric basics by encouraging them to be crafty and creative. From embellishing accessories to designing trendy totes, this class is sure to be one that fits everybody!

Students will study the basics of drawing the human figure for sketch and design purposes. They will learn how to manipulate the fundamental elements of artistic design, such as color and shading, and disvocer how they apply to apparel and accessory design.  Our budding designers will create mood boards and turn their visions for a fashion design into an image on paper. They will also examine famous designers and clothing from around the globe, and create a style book of their favorite fashion images.  Students will learn basic hand and machine sewing techniques while creating and embellishing trendy and chic accessories including jewelry, handbags, and shoes.  They will also  participate in design challenges, runway shows, and photo shoots to make this class fabulously fashionable!

 This class will cover the basics of fashion art and design illustrations including figures and facial proportions, positive and negative space, color, and shading. We will take students through the design process as they progress from initial concept to finished product.  They will learn fundamental hand and machine sewing skills as well as fabric selection and preparation.  Students will become familiar with fashion terminology and history, famous designers, and branding.  In addition to building their foundational skills, students will nurture their inner fashionistas as they create mood boards and design their own lines.  Finally, we will add in design challenges, runway shows, and photo shoots for a fabulously fashionable class!

 From measuring to pattern making, future designers will learn both fundamental and advanced sewing techniques. They will gain knowledge of fashion history as well as industry terminology.  Examining famous designers and marketing will be incorporated into the class when students design their own brands and logos.  In this class, up-and-coming designers will take their ideas from concept to completion as they develop their own collections.  We will also guide aspiring designers through the complex process of assembling a professional portfolio. This class focuses on nurturing the emergent reader and writer in every preschooler.  Through immersive instruction in phonological and print awareness, young students will be on the path for reading success. One of the most valuable lifelong skills elementary students need to learn is the ability to read grade-level text with fluency and understanding.  Being able to simply “call words” does not help students succeed.  They must build background knowledge and have the academic vocabulary necessary for comprehension. This class will focus on exposing students to valuable strategies and thinking skills necessary for understanding increasingly complex text in content areas such as literature, math, social studies, and science.  Students will also build important writing skills and text response skills using Write From the Beginning and Beyond®, the writing sequel to Thinking Maps®.  We will also provide students with a basic framework for test-taking and how to effectively use the features in their textbooks.

This class is perfect for late elementary and middle school students who want to improve their writing, reading, and study skills.  When students enter middle school, they may be overwhelmed by the amount of content for which they are responsible. S.T.E.A.M.

Grade Pre K

Students will be exposed to a laboratory environment like no other! Whether they are making edible experiments, playing with explosives (yay!), programming robots, building engineered structures, or assembling electrical circuits, our students will never be bored. This safe, non-toxic, highly creative workspace is geared to kickstart your early thinker's curiosity and love of learning.

Does your son like to take things apart just to see how they work? Is your daughter constantly trying to build the perfect skyscraper shopping mall?  This engaging hands-on, minds-on class provides learning experiences for our budding inventors and engineers.  Cross-curricular connections will be strengthened in this class that celebrates collaborative learning and the natural curiosity of children. By giving young elementary students a strong math and science foundation, they will be better able to handle the demands of more challenging content.  Students will discover how important the varied STEAM disciplines are by connecting these subjects to real-world situations in a way that is engaging and entertaining.

Who says scientists aren’t creative? Why can’t artists be good in math?  In reality, it takes both creativity and technical skills to make discoveries, conduct experiments, and see things from different perspectives.  Our S.T.E.A.M. Classes are all about building the next generation of innovators and makers.  We encourage dynamic, student-centered instruction through open-ended projects and teamwork. Students will begin to take ownership of the classroom, leading them to self-directed inquiry and invention. Real-world skills will be developed as we pursue various projects, experiments and design challenges in both individual and group settings. Students will be both encouraged and challenged to explore the fundamental workings of the world around them, while beginning to grow the practical knowledge that will allow them to pursue solutions to the questons that they will generate as fully-engaged creative and critical thinkers.

We believe that student achievement is impacted by student engagement. That’s why we strive to inspire and motivate students by putting them in the driver's seat. At this age level, we begin to explore such advanced concepts as electromagnetism, the science of the stars, jet propulsion, use of precision manufacturing tools, and 3D printers. Students will be given daily challenges and pitted against one another in fun and fact-filled group learning sessions where quick thinking and teamwork lead to discovery and excitement.

As the need for a highly-skilled workforce increases, it is more crucial than ever that high school students are confident and proficient in these challenging areas.  When pursuing college and career, it is essential that our students are prepared. To this end, all S.T.E.A.M. classes at the 9-12 level are geared toward practical and relevant real-world application.
